Wilderness Club is fortunate to border Lake Koocanusa, one of North America’s largest bodies of water. Stretching for over 90 miles, approximately half the lake extends into Canada and it offers some of the finest trout fishing in northwest Montana. Teaming with Kokanee Salmon, Kamloop Rainbow, West Slope Cutthroat, Whitefish and the occasional Bull Trout, a catch-and-release fighter, Lake Koocanusa is a delight for anglers. Wilderness Club owners can look forward to fishing as well as boarding our Master Craft ski boat for a picnic on a deserted stretch of beach or a sunset cruise.
If you’re lucky you may even spot wildlife, including moose, bald eagles, river otters and great blue herons. With over 125 miles of shoreline, Lake Koocanusa has dozens of small coves and beaches to explore. Through the community’s concierge Wilderness Club owners can arrange to go jet skiing, and the lake is where wake boarding, kite boarding, water skiing and flat water kayaking make for a great way to spend the day with your family and friends. The Lake Koocanusa Scenic Byway, a loop stretching for 67 miles, is a fantastic place for cyclists to take in the Big Sky county scenery.
